RANDOM SUNDAY

What should I write about today?  Honestly, so many subjects screaming to be shared.

I could share with you my first most favorite topic; My eldest daughter, as she is bartending in DC and cracked me up when she shared the other day that a customer ordered the “kweesh”.  (I’m laughing again!)

I could write about my second most favorite topic; My middle daughter who invited me to the Parade pre game to play beer pong with her roommates in Chicago last weekend, orders her steak rare and was perfectly comfortable and confident at the St Patrick’s Day parade wearing a dress made of Kelly green felt!

I could talk about my 3rd most favorite topic (that’s right…three daughters!!) who has heard from 6 colleges, with no rejections, numerous offers of (substantial) grants, and who once upon a time was so set in her ways… “sushi”, “no sushi”, “I don’t care, I want sushi” but now says; “Anything is fine.  How about sushi?”

I could talk about the incredible importance of excellent service #1, and how a Brazilian Starbucks employee working alone served 15 people in line on a busy Sunday morning in less than 10 minutes by moving fast, moving efficient, multi taking and NOT texting her friends including Lattes, Chai’s, xtra this, double that, soy and skims alike, or, excellent service story #2,  how Victor M at the Blue Taleh in Lowell is everything a bartender should be;  Attentive, accurate, attentive, fast, attentive, clean, charming, funny, attractive, theatrical and…attentive without being disruptive!  (The best around)

I could expand (forever) about what a great and successful Chef-friend told me two days ago when I asked “Where can I find a skilled, stable sous Chef who will stay beyond a year?”  His 1st answer; “Mars?”  (you have no idea!”)  2nd answer; Hire a Brazilian (duh!)  His 3rd answer; “Avoid white kids who think they are great” (double duh!)

I could tell you why I want to come back as a Brazilian.  (see above)

I could tell you about what a thrill it is to employ (3) part time teenage girls who show up to work on time, dressed properly, with great attitudes and who are amazingly proficient in coordinating food service at Moonstones between kitchen and guest.  (precious gems)

I could tell you about how excited I am to have reservations next week at Café Atlantico, the DC Restaurant owned by Chef-Icon Jose Andres, and how good that food will taste after the 1st round of golf in 2010.

Or how the new Beacon Grille is “ok” but should be better with a sign that big!  (But thank you for introducing me to Dale’s Pale Ale!  Coming soon….

I could tell you about Manager /Writer Peg “Jet” Mcfarland (whom I adore) and how funny I find it that she thinks … vs …. is significant!

(I am not saying it isn’t, for the record!)

I could tell you how sad it is that I own two restaurants yet, right now at home, I cannot put cream in my coffee, milk in my cereal, peanut butter on bread, any meat on the grill, a banana with the peanut butter, or anything on a plate that doesn’t come out of a can or off of the “carb wheel” (an expression coined by one of my favorite three subjects!)

To market!
