ROLLING STONES GATHER NO MOSS (BRUNCH WORRY PART 1)

Written by  ,     January 7, 2013     Posted in Fun, Restaurant

The month of December is always crazy-busy, always the biggest month of the year, and, not surprisingly, considering our trend, that this has been… NEWSFLASH; The biggest month in the biggest year ever–for both Stones–Cobblestones approaching it’s 20th year and; moonstones approaching it’s 5th!  Of course, that is incredible news.

Also, of course, as it is in business; Our sales are ever challenged by the never ending rising costs; Energy, legislation and taxes, technology, licensing and health care, insurance…and more!  And the food?!  Food has never been so expensive! Case in point–When we opened Cobblestones in 1994 (ouch), the flap meat we used, and still use, for our steak tips (same recipe 19 years later!) was $1.99 per pound, and sold for $8.99. Now? It is closer to $6.00 per pound, 3 times more expensive.  (and, NO! we are not charging $27 for our steak tips!)  “I’m not complaining.”

Just sayin’

Anyway–you (all 2,000+ of you who actually read this, and thank you for that, and… I have to tell you how weird that is in some other blog on some other day, because for some strange reason, I am still always surprised when people say every week “Loved your blog post”!  Or “You’re a jerk!”)

Ok, where was I?  Back to today’s post…Anyway, you have no idea how huanting it is to be me–as one who wakes up in the middle of the night or very 1st thing in the morning, constantly, with a new idea!  THEN, come December, you have no idea how hard it is to have to “hold back”–to “keep still” as my “Nannny” used to say– and just let the managers and the staff deal with the issues and business of the day.

Generally, we are all about looking forward.  Of planning ahead, thinking of new promotions, new drink specials, new menu items, new paint colors, new ideas….but NOT EVER in December.  (Note: You also probably have no idea how challenging it can be to work for me!  I imagine more than a couple ex managers/staff will probably read this and extend their middle fingers in the air just in ceremony–at the result of those ongoing ideas–the great many emails, notes, phone calls, meetings, strategy talks, strategizing the strategy talks, talking to myself, etc)

So, here it is, 2013.  What’s coming this year?  (I’ll get back to you…this post was to be about someting else, actually)

You know what never changes, and it is most certainly a good thing in the scheme of staying competitive–middle fingers in the air notwitstanding?  No matter if it is a record month, or record year, I/we never stop worrying about tomorrow.

Rolling stones gather no moss.  (“Moss” haunts my sleep)

Which, finally, brings me to Sunday Brunch, the initial point of this blog.  Of course, given it is so early in the new year, the blog is too long…Considering that one of my (just thought of this) new year’s resolutions is to write shorter, more frequent posts.

So then, Please come back and read about my brunch experience yesterday, which will be continued in my next post.  It will begin like this….

“Worried about whether Sunday brunch will ever be a killer shift at moonstones, I drove down there with worry and concern…only days after….”
